Louise Moeri

American author born in Oregon in 1924. She grew up in the troublesome era of the Great Depression but overcome this difficult start to become a popular author of teenage fiction. Many of her books also deal with children overcoming some sort of adversity and cover a number of different genres including historical and fantasy as well as modern down-to-earth settings. A couple feature horses, although only one is a traditional type pony story (A Horse for X.Y.Z).

SUMMARY: 12  year old Solveig was desperate to ride Snake Dancer, but the riding master at camp said he was too much horse for kids. When she got a chance to sneak back and steal a ride, Solveig got a lot more than she bargained for: she ended up on the run with Snake Dancer in an effort to save him.

SUMMARY: Not really a pony book. It is a slightly dark fairy tale which features a unicorn, so I have included it for the unicorn lovers amongst you!

THE DEVIL IN OL' ROSIE

SUMMARY: Historical story set on a ranch at the turn of the century. When a herd of horses goes astray, 12 year old John sees an opportunity to prove to his father that he is not worthless by setting off to re-capture the animals. But the task does not prove an easy one.

Collectors info:
Easy to find in the USA. A Horse for XYZ can be found without too much trouble in the UK, although the others are much harder.
